Welcome of New Member: President Wally formally welcomed Myles Derry as a member of the Club.
Fines were levied by David Brownson on all other members present. Asking members to own up the month of their birth, January through to December, David then detailed the gemstone associated with each particular month.
Youth Activities :
RYLA and RYPEN. President Wally asked for a member to come forward to seek potential candidates and arrange applications
Rotary Science & Technology Forum, Auckland : January, 2024. President Wally reported that two very good candidates from “Sacred Heart College” would each be 50% funded.
Rotary Club of Ngāmotu Charitable Trust : Notice had been given to Club members on 20th August, 2023 that the Club would this evening be seeking nominations for trustees.
David Brownson was proposed by President Wally Garrett, seconded by Sally Morch, and voted by Club members to serve as a trustee.
Sally Morch was proposed by Des Friedrich, seconded by Myles Derry, and voted by Club members to serve as a trustee.
“The Rotary Club of Ngāmotu – the future of ?”
The discussion on this important topic was opened with a presentation by John Pitman setting out the “Current Reality” for “Ngāmotu” followed by four options :
A : Continue fortnightly
B: Join the proxy Rotary Club of “Mana Tangata” as a Chapter of that Club
C: Join other Clubs
D: Wind up Ngāmotu by 31st December, 2023, whilst making provision for the Rotary Club of Ngāmotu Charitable Trust.
John’s presentation was followed by contributions from a number of members. Their comments, together with the text of the presentation, are being collated and a separate report for members will be provided.
A proposal was put that the Club should in future meet only once a month for a meal and speaker at the Auto Lodge. A majority voted in favour of this suggestion.
