Apologies for dinner meetings by 12.00 Noon day of meeting
to Jan Northrop:email: jan.northrop@yahoo.com

Our Open Meeting on 6 October proved to be a great occasion of friendship and fellowship, even though we had hoped for higher numbers. Those who attended - around 16- certainly provided enthusiasm and encouragement.

Our main speaker was Taylor Fulton from Canada. She is currently spending two years in NZ on a Work Visa and has made New Plymouth her home. And we are delighted to say has adopted our club as her Rotary family.

She spoke about her own journey with Rotary - from a Rotary Youth Exchange to Brazil to RYPEN and Rotaract. All these had given a sense of belonging and a chance to form new friendships,as well as giving back to the community. Rotaract in particular offered connection and fellowship during Covid and as President of her group she was involved in many community projects, offering both fun and practical help.

She is a great ambassador for Rotary, enthusiastic, entertaining and very knowledgeable. Taylor was happy to answer our questions, including those from friends who had come along to learn more about this organisation she mentioned so frequently. We hope some of these friends will join us again to learn even more about Rotary could have a place in their lives.

Jan N thanked Taylor on behalf of of the Club and President Murray repeated this before giving a brief introduction to a relatively new scheme called  Rotabiz designed to encourage businesses to join. In the manner of the old Corporate scheme it gives them the opportunity to to nominate up to 4 people from the business to attend meetings.

He thanked all our guests  including  Bryce and Delwyn - Barnett, Nitin Khare and Trish Betts for attending  and making the evening so enjoyable and instructive. We look forward to their feedback and seeing them again at a future meeting.

Jan Dempsey closed the more formal part of the meeting with the Rotary Motto and Vision Statement :

Rotary Motto

The Rotary way is to light a candle. I light one, you light one,1.2 million Rotarians light one. Together, we light up the world.

Vision Statement

Together we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change- across the globe,in our communities and in ourselves.
