Greetings in Rotary
A very good meeting last Monday night with an interesting, well spoken presentation by Rosemary Clements from the TDHB.
Just a reminder that we are having our annual visit from the District Governor Gillian Jones on 23rd November, 5.30pm at Summerset Mountain View, Fernbrook Drive. It is a partners’ night and please get in early with your replies to me as we need these numbers to the caterer by mid-day Wednesday 18th.
Big day for all of us on Friday 13th at Ngāmotu Golf course for our Charity Golf Tournament. Hoping to see as many of you there as possible.

Rosemary has just been presented with a 35 year employee certificate. She started as a nurse.
She explained that the annual budget for the TDHB was $438M, 53% was for hospital services. Total staff 2100 Taranaki's biggest employer. Great range of staff and skill sets, Taranaki has become an attractive place to live and work, with good training opportunities for medical staff.
COVID 19 particularly the lockdown period presented many
challenges for the TDHB and fortunately bureaucracy didn't interfere with those challenges. Rosemary said that Zooming became an everyday occurrence with the 19 DHB's fully briefed prior to the Public Briefings.
Iwi were encouraged to work directly with their whanau welfare and were shocked to find that they could do it and also pick up other medical conditions in the process.
Pop up Clinics at Waitara and New Plymouth New World supermarkets carried out 1000 tests/day.
There was no time to be nervous and there were positive spinoffs in people meeting each other in neighbourhoods.
Rosemary mentioned the Health System review thats underway headed by the new Health Minister Andrew Little
This will be a 2-5 year process with the needs of the community being balanced against the infrastructure advantages of Mega DHB's
She acknowledged that Maori Health equity needed investment.
Current projects are:
Replacement of East Wing earthquake prone buildings $336M This will provide for ICU, Emergency Dept, Laboratory, Maternity, Radiology needs.
New Renal Unit- Energy Centre: start before Christmas.
$25M Cancer Centre- Linial radiotherapy M/C
Will enable more radiotherapy/chemotherapy to be done
locally. Open by 2023
Mental Health Unit Upgrade of other half $8M

It will be the same as last time; an outside BBQ (inside if wet).
Normal Rotary start time for people to arrive from 5.15pm and to be sitting down to eat around 6.00pm.
If people could bring either a mains or dessert and if they could advise of numbers closer to the time.
