Three Minute Talk : Jan Dempsey as a relieving teacher is still surprised today by how many students lack reading and mathematical skills. She suspects that teachers are now university graduates that haven't had the formal training that used to happen in Training Colleges (don't exist now) for teachers.
Too many children turning up to school hungry or eating rubbish food.
Needs to be less emphasis on using cellphones and listening particularly to younger children read.

Member Financial Balances: John Pitman

John has spent countless hours going through club finances in the process learning to use Xero. He has managed to sort out the accounts for 2022/23. This includes member financial  balances as at 30th June 2023 which he gave to members present and will send to those that apologised for the meeting.
He intends to retain $100 in member accounts in credit , refund the balance amount outstanding and will recover money owing from a few members.
Well done John.

Power Point Presentation: Taking the Club Forward- President Wally

Wally went through a presentation based on the feedback received from the 14 members that responded to the Questionnaire.
This will be emailed to all members by The Secretary Michael Archer

An issue identified the survey was that the cost of being a Ngamotu Club member is considered to be too high by some members with 2 dinner meetings per month, particularly if we wish to attract younger members.

To address this  it was agreed ( that there would only be one dinner meeting/month at the Auto Lodge (2nd Monday) and on the 4th Monday of the month a business meeting to be held at other venues (which will be advised in the Roster) where no meal will be provided.
As an example The AGM for the Club will be held on 30th October, (4th Monday is Labour Day hence the chosen date) at Summerset at Pohutukawa Place, Bell Block.

The monthly payment for membership will be changed accordingly and advised by The Treasurer to all members.

Wally emphasised that all members need to take on the challenge of gaining at least an additional 6 nett members(preferably people who are currently employed) by 30th June 2024 to ensure ongoing club viability.

The Club Centenary in June 2025 was still seen as important to celebrate. Fund raising for a Club Centennial Project(yet to be decided) for this event using the 2024, 2025 Annual Golf tournaments as a source for seed funding plus any Grants or other sources of funding as needed for a viable project will need to be addressed.
